According to InformationWeek the e-mail is on the way out, they even say that e-mail is decreasing the efficiency among the coworkers. It's not uncommon that a single person can get hundreds of e-mails per day, and that is something the e-mail applications aren't built for. It becomes practically speaking almost impossible to keep track of all e-mails, and important ones can easily be caught up in the spam filter.
As a solution for this problem companies has begun to use collaborative tools like blogging and wikis, these tools are built from the ground-up for managing large information volumes.
"E-mail has been overused and abused for project management in organizations," says Christopher Alden, executive VP and general manager of Movable Type. "Yet the reason people use e-mail is because it's easy, it's lightweight, it's quick. No one's nervous about authoring an e-mail. So blogs are hitting that middle zone in many different ways."
